Featuring a “faubourg”-style architectural form with two floors of red brick cladding and a contemporary 3rd floor, the project blends smoothly into the Vaudreuil district on the Île de Hull. Located on the site of the former Carillon grocery store, destroyed by fire in 2015, it was possible for our team to take advantage of the acquired rights at this address to develop a small-scale multi-residential typology. Comprising three rental units and one owner-occupied apartment, the envelope concept includes fenestration of size and style specific to the heritage of this street, as well as linear cornices with corbels at the junctions.
The strict rules governing integration into the preservation Site Planning and Architectural Integration Program required numerous exchanges with the client and the City of Gatineau, as well as an exemplary collaboration between the various stakeholders, to ensure that the project would be approved by the Planning Advisory Committee.
