This project involved the design and construction of the base building for a mixed-use building in the heart of Old Chelsea. Located at 193 Old Chelsea Road, the building combines a commercial first floor with residential units on the second floor.
To integrate the building perfectly within the urban fabric, and given its location on the municipality’s main artery, the design features a pitched roof and stone cladding. The addition of pergolas was also preferred to reduce the effect of height and integrate interesting architectural details to the building. As for the generous openings, they allow commercial tenants and residents to benefit from optimal natural light.
This project raised several challenges, including multiple programming variations that required considerable adaptability from our design team. In fact, the design of the first floor had to be adjusted frequently to meet the tenants’ needs, as well as the layout of the 4 units on the second floor, in response to the client’s requests. Committed to providing services that exceed our clients’ expectations, A4 demonstrated openness, active listening, and responsiveness throughout this mandate.
