In 2019, we were mandated by Cominar for this major project in the Galeries de Hull consisting in the transformation of the former Sears. The client wanted to return the huge 11,500 m2 space to its basic state in order to create several units on two different levels. In addition to subdividing the space (4 rooms on level 1 and 5 rooms on level 2), it was necessary to create common corridors in order to connect the renovated part to the existing one, to add a new washroom area, and to completely renovate the entrances affected by the renovations. The renovations included raising the ceiling of the vestibules, adding glazing and changing the cladding of the three entrances involved.
Furthermore, numerous interventions to the vertical envelope were necessary, including the addition of windows to bring natural light into the new premises and give them a more human perspective by opening them to the outside. In addition to improving the experience of people passing in front of the building and offering a new point of view, these works were in line with the wind of renewal blowing on St-Joseph Boulevard for a few years now.
Finally, it is important to note that our team developed the design guide for the Galeries de Hull. This guide was used for the numerous works mentioned above and will be used for the renovation of the central spaces of the mall, as the food court has already undergone some work recently.
