The redevelopment project of the atrium in Pavilion Alexandre-Taché at UQO aimed to enhance the space’s attractiveness and optimize usage by students and staff.
With a design echoing the renovated cafeteria, the atrium is organically divided into three spaces separated by two pathways. A long bench with tables, chairs, and ottomans, along with bar counter sections featuring high stools arranged along the curtain wall, allows people to pause for a moment to work while maintaining a visual connection with the inner courtyard. Suspended metal structures along this zone showcase artificial plants and colorful lighting fixtures to energize the space, which is bathed in natural light.
At the heart of the atrium, the lounge area includes movable furniture that fosters gatherings as well as moments of solitude. The low tables, sofas, and comfortable chairs add to this space’s neutral and light color palette, accented with a few pops of color. On the opposite side, the workspace area features small round tables with colorful chairs that can accommodate two people.
Simple and effective, this new layout has met our client’s expectations, who has observed an increase in the occupancy of the space since our experienced design team’s intervention.
